Hello, Everyone! Or… Namaste, Friends!
It has been a very intense, eventful trip so far (at least, for me it has been), but over all, every good. We've had safe travels, for which we are very thankful. The way people drive here is definitely different than in the States. Road rules and signs are mostly a suggestion. A one-lane road can fit two cars in the middle of the road… or on either side…. just be sure to honk at every possible moment. Think tetris on wheels, throw in cars, trucks, rickshaws, motorcycles, bicycles, cows, dogs, children, men, women, horses, camels, etc… and you get an idea. We never see the same thing twice.
We have been spending most of our time at AH, a home for orphans near where we are stayng. There are 4 or 5 adults and 30 children. The children are incredibly sweet and well behaved. They are everyone on the team Auntie or Uncle… i.e. "Julia Auntie" or Victor Uncle". They put Auntie or Uncle after all of our names!
We were here for church on Sunday. It was a lot of fun! The children are enthusiastic worshippers. We felt so privileged and honored to join them.
After lunch, we played games outside. The children are very good at their sports and they have very patiently taught us their games.
Last week, we were able to take a tour of Delhi to see some of the historical sites of India as well as some other things. We visited the India Gate, the Ghandi Memorial, the Parliament House, the Lotus temple, and various other places. It's a very beautiful building; the atmosphere is quiet and reverant, but knowing that the people praying there are probably not praying to God is sad. One of the things that they said that I have that the is thinking about is that the highest form of prayer is not for something you reqest and not because you fear God, but because you love Him. And that is true… when you pray to our Heavenly Father.
Jet lag has left us awake at odd hours of the night, and we've had many prayer meetings during those times. Those always turn out to be so rewarding. It helps us to bond as a team better, and to be more aware of what God has sent us here to accomplish.
The food here is amazing! Rice and spice… it's wonderful!
We haven't been to the Taj Mahal yet, but we will be. It is a four hour drive from where we are. We'll take a lot of pictures!
The people of India are anxious for it to rain because their electricity is water-powered. The lack of rain has been causing power outages. When it rained the other day, the children went ouside and celebrated!
The heat and humidity are great, but we are thankful for fans… even though it isn't the same as ac.
Thank you, Everyone, for your prayers and support. It definitely makes a difference to know you are praying!
Love,
Vicki.
