This week we had the opportunity to meet and talk to the parents and children of the Asha House Children’s Home. Asha house is a home for the neglected and abandoned children of India. Since opening its doors in March of 2007, Asha has taken in over 40 children into its family. The children come from brothels, villages, slums, and the streets of India. Many come from situations where they were going to be forced into slavery and prostitution.

In one day, the parents of Asha house taught me so much.

Their personal story is one of faith, perseverance, and divine providence. What loved most about them was their love and honor for one another and their children. Each child was so kind and had the joy of the Lord.

Sandy* shared her personal story with us as it related to her desire to have a child. Many doctors told her she could not get pregnant. So every night, the children of Asha House surrounded her and prayed for her to conceive and have the desires of her heart.

Today she is a mom of a beautiful two-year-old girl!

During our second year of marriage, I suffered a miscarriage. It has always been a desire of my husband’s and I to have children. Doctors have told us that nothing is wrong and that I can have children. Nonetheless, it can be challenging (at times) simply waiting and trusting God’s perfect timing.

When you are in this process so many people volunteer their advice, prophecies, articles, and more. Although they are meant to be encouraging; this can often be a bit overwhelming. But after Sandy shared her story with us, I felt like God was leading me to ask if her children could pray for me. And I found out later another friend was going to suggest this as well; which was confirmation!

I did not know what to expect when these children prayed for me in their language. Honestly, I just was being obedient to what I believed God was asking me to do. It is not that I don’t believe that God was not going to answer the previous prayers that were prayed. I just knew this was another step of faith to allow these children to pray for me. As they begin to pray in their native tongue, I was in awe of their passion and faith. The prayers of these children invoked the presence of God, and I was overwhelmed with gratitude that these precious children had linked their faith with mine. We were in agreement for God’s perfect will to be done in my life. As they cried out for the deepest desire of my heart.

We must never underestimate the power of prayer in a child.

But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that He had done, and the children who were shouting in the temple, “Hosanna to the Son of David,” they became indignant and said to Him, “Do You hear what these children are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes; have you never read, ‘out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies you have prepared praise for yourself’?” Matthew 21:15-16 (NASB)
