On our second day at the leper colony, our goal was to establish relationships, show love, and share Christ in 1 hour with a huge communication barrier. I showed up feeling awkward and unsure of how to begin.

Being a large American with a red bead made me something of a celebrity in India. That day it drew the attention of a man who looks like India's Santa Claus.

He shaped my mustache and tried on my sunglasses... then went to sit by himself. I joined him a few minutes later, and after a few attempts at conversation, we just sat in silence for half an hour.

That gained me admittance to his house, where I was treated to a banana and Bollywood television blasted at max volume. We parted ways with hugs and a promise to return in a few days.

The leper colony itself is a testament to God's love. He provides for them despite what the world thinks of them. That day God showed them love through a visit with some Americans. He showed me not to limit what I think love looks like. That day love was beards, bananas, and Bollywood.
