Mission trips are a time for new experiences. They are a time for you to try new things. They are a time for you to have conversations with people you don't know. They are a time for you to get deeper with people you've known for years. All that sounds great, but it also sounds uncomfortable.

"If we never get out of our comfort zones, we can't grow into the places God has prepared for us."

One of our past particiapnts, Jodi Utter, described India as this:

"When I was in India, I saw nothing but dirt, dust, dung, and dilapidated buildings. The heat, humidity, and hopelessness that were visibly worn by the people were oppressive and in no way beautiful. Driving at night through giant potholes and past piles of trash and a few cows, I couldn't believe we were going to actually live in that village! Darkness. Fear. All around me."

She later writes about one of her experiences at an orphanage in India:

"The brightest light I saw in India was in an orphanage. Hope! Joy! Games, hot chai, the blessing of homework and an education. Songs, dances, "Jesus, You're my superhero," sung just like in the U.S., but with a most wonderful Indian accent in the children's voices. I loved our time there!"

If she would not have gone out of her comfort zone, she would not have ever experienced the joy she witnessed at the orphanage. Often times we allow fear to keep us in our comfort zone. Break free. Do something different. Do something new. Do something radical.
